In the very heart of Moscow, in the conceptual restaurant and bar "Gallery", a project was implemented in which classical aesthetics and modern interior solutions were combined in one expressive element - the plaster bas-relief Fountain of Innocents. The space of the establishment, filled with columns, sculptures, bright neon accents and bold color solutions, required a special design move - that very semantic anchor, which will not just be a decoration, but a real artistic element.
The designer chose a bas-relief depicting ancient nymphs — a composition inspired by the image of the Fontaine des Innocents in Paris. This bas-relief became the central element of the bar counter design, which instantly captures the attention of everyone who enters the room. The depth of the images, the elegance of the lines and the expressive plasticity of the female figures with ancient Greek motifs create a contrast with the geometry of the modern space, without violating the overall compositional integrity. On the contrary, they emphasize the main idea of the interior: the combination of times, styles and cultural codes.
The bas-relief was mounted at the bottom of the bar counter — an unusual, but extremely precise solution. It is at this level that guests most often pay attention, especially during close contact — at the counter, while waiting for a cocktail or during communication. Thanks to the soft lighting built in under the tabletop, the relief acquired volume and dynamics. Light accents enliven every detail: the curls of the nymphs, the folds of their clothes, the movements of their bodies frozen in graceful elegance. It seems as if the bar counter is not just an element of the interior, but a fragment of an antique bas-relief mounted in a 21st century interior.
The technical implementation was no less elegant than the artistic part. The bas-relief is made of high-quality and environmentally friendly gypsum, which is especially important for public institutions. Each detail is made with filigree precision and then finished by hand. Installation was carried out at the final stage of finishing works in order to maintain the geometry of the space and fit the bas-relief into the architectural structure, limited by a massive column and geometric floor tiles.
The interaction of the bas-relief with the other elements of the interior deserves special attention. The white column in the classical style seems to continue the theme of antiquity, but due to the cold lighting and contrast with the neon lines on the walls, an effect of new theatricality is created. In this project, each element works for the general idea - the space as a modern gallery, where art does not hang on the walls, but "talks" to each guest.
The project in the Gallery restaurant is another confirmation of how bas-relief can go beyond the traditional decorative perception and become a tool for constructing a concept, atmosphere and depth of space. In the era of visual noise, it is tactile, volumetric forms that return to us the feeling of real design - one that is not just beautiful, but speaks, breathes, feels.
